Tattoo Meanings

TATTOO MEANINGS

In the fast paced world we live in it seems some of us get tattoo designs just for art’s sake, we like the look of a ‘sleeve’ so we go and get one. There is nothing wrong with this by any means but there is a meaning or symbolism that can be pulled from almost any design that we could get tattooed on ourselves and for many of us this is an important aspect in deciding what we want to get permanently tattooed on our bodies.

While some designs are very unique and have special meanings for the wearer even the most common and popular designs have a symbolism behind them that you can adapt to your individual persona or feelings.

For example we have all seen someone around, especially those from America, with an eagle tattoo meaning patriotic sentiments for their homeland but this has other meanings behind it such as the need to protect our natural environment and many will also get an eagle tattoo design purely for its’ masculine qualities as an image of power.

For a more feminine design, a bird or a phoenix tattoo could be a good choice, many will sport these tattoos simply because they like the design. In some cultures the phoenix is considered the feminine counterpart to the dragon and is likened to the yin and yang or good vs. evil, day vs. night and is quite often seen intertwined with the dragon to represent this. Many believe that the phoenix tattoo also represents immortality.

So for whatever reason you’re thinking about getting a tattoo there will always be some meaning behind it when others look at it; whether it was intended or not and it can also be fun to find out what some of the tattoo designs you already have could mean to others.

All in all the most important thing is that the design you have has meaning to you and if it’s just because you like a particular design this is fine, you will however find all of your tattoos will have meaning one day, even if it’s just a remembrance of the time when you got it done.
