Tat2X: What inspired you to become an artist?

Charity Hamidullah: As a child I saw my mother doodle; my father was from head to toe covered in my style and creative with his writing. Creativity was all around me and being an artist seemed natural when I looked to the world for my source of inspiration.

Tat2X: Do you prefer working at a larger scale?

Charity Hamidullah: I love all scales of pieces. Large or small; there is always a lesson in the piece.

Tat2X: How do you choose your subject matter?

Charity Hamidullah: My subject matter is usually chosen from my environment. What I see on my daily walks and through interactions inspire my artwork and the narratives behind them.

Tat2X: Which artists have inspired you?

Charity Hamidullah: So many; the list is literally endless. Some of my tops are New Jac , Tom Davii, Yuzly Matherin, Charley Palmer, C. Tat2X: Have you had any unusual commission requests?

Charity Hamidullah: Being a tattoo artist for 16 years; nothing in life is unusual.

Tat2X: Do you have any goals or things you want to accomplish as an artist?

Charity Hamidullah: My goal is just to create, grow everyday as an artist, and inspire as many people as possible around me.

Tat2X: Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?

Learn as much as possible from every single being around you. Anyone and everyone can teach you something. From artist friends, to clients, people you would normally pass by to those you who you adore. Some of my greatest knowledge upon art and life has been obtained at murals talking to some amazing people who pass by; some were homeless, others lived in the neighborhood. But, all had knowledge that I will carry with me forever.

Tat2X: Since we usually interview Tattoo artists, do you have any tattoo related stories you’d like to share with us?

Charity Hamidullah: Before 2022, I had been tattooing for 16 years and have had so many awesome moments. The biggest thing that sticks out to me is the power that tattooing has to connect people. From artist to client, I’ve met some of my best friends, I’ve learned so many stories; have grown with families, learned lessons ect. My clients have become friends, sometimes gotten married, will connect with others just on the sole fact of their shared love for body art. Snd, it’s been really beautiful to witness the power of this art.
